Review – Winter Field Day 2025

Winter Field Day for 2025 was another cold one, starting at 31 degrees as we started deploying our antennas at the Appalachian Conference grounds in Dublin, VA.

Setup was completed about 11:00am and included 3 stations sharing the DX Commander antenna through two available triplexers. We first started on 10, 15, and 20 meters, and gave way to switching to 20, 40, and 80 meters after 4pm.

The performance of our setup is shown in our notable contacts. From Europe we were able to contact the Czech Republic, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Denmark, Germany, and Spain. Toward the Caribbean we captured Puerto Rico, Martinique, and the Turks & Caicos Islands. We were also able to stretch toward the Pacific as we captured Hawaii once again on 15 meters.

We ended the night around 10pm with 250 contacts (187 phone, 62 CW), and left a secure facility. Returning in the morning we were able to bag one additional contact on 2 meters while parking. We then proceeded to pack up the equipment, go home, and take a much needed rest.

Again, the Winter Field Day activities were fun! We had a great time coming together for a common goal, brought some neat things to share, and had homemade soup and pot pies! I look forward to our next Winter Field Day activity!
